Safari Wish ~ Cory Stone

The Safari Wish program in action again...

 Back to Safari Wish '08

If there was one thing that came out of this hunt that I can say was all worth it, was that Jim and Pete have now become friends and on Saturday, November 8th, 2008, they actually hunted Whitetails together on a controlled hunt in Sandusky, Ohio, the hunt was unsuccessful but I believe their friendship will take them to more successful hunts, please join us in March at our annual Sportsmen banquet and meet these two fine men and share in the experience.

Jim Daniels pictured with his trophy buffalo (Also pictured with guide Steve)
Jim is 48 y/o and has been living with a disability for the last 33 years. He works full time at a local hospital as a Lab Clerk for the last 28 years. Though he has hunted in his younger years (rabbit, pheasant) he stopped after his injury. He kept fishing all those years, but didn't get back into hunting until 5 years ago. He has taken up turkey hunting, but hasn't bagged one yet. He started deer hunting 3 years ago, and has taken two deer to date. One of things he most enjoys is just getting into the woods and just sitting watching all the wildlife and sounds.
Pete Vanko pictured with his trophy buffalo
Pete Vanko, was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis at the age of 13, a disease which attacks the spinal cord like polio, Pete is now 63. Back then the world was not too handicap wheelchair accessible but Pete found ways to occupy time by competing in the Wheel Chair Olympics Track and Field events in which he took the gold in the 1964 Archery Nationals in New York. He's also the 1996 President and Founder of the Wheel Chair Billiards Foundation. Pete has a great passion for outdoors but is new to it. In 2007 Pete took his first deer, a doe, on a controlled hunt at Ottawa Wildlife Refuge, in 2008 Pete took his first buck a nice 7 point! Ever since he was introduced to hunting he has been hooked. Due to his deteriorating condition he is limited in his activities, but has lived past the life expectancy given to him by his doctors and is still self sufficient. Pete is a strong willed individual. I can't wait to see what or where he takes this passion for outdoors next.
