~Scott 's Brown / Grizzly Bear Hunt~
May 2007

The hunting has been great!
Sunday we headed out across the canal in Jodis 20 ft boat to the Port Stewart Bay. While entering the bay I noticed a 7 ft brown bear walking the beach searching for food. We motored ahead of the bear a mile or so of the bear and tried to stalk along the beach but the wind was blowing towards the bear and he must of caught our scent and he walked back into the woods. We jumped back in the boat and motored to the back of the bay and stalked up the grass flats. About 3/4 mile along I caught movement and noticed a 7 to 8 ft male brown bear. We stalked to within 70 yd's and laid behind a log to wait for the perfect broad side shot. The bear grazed on the grass moving closer towards us. Its was getting very tense with the 600 pound bear at only 40 yd's away and walking closer. With the power and speed of these beast he could easily travel this distance in about 1.5 seconds. As he got closer he must have caught our scent because he became nervous and turned broad side which is when Jodi fired from his 30-06 and the bear went down; then it stuck its' head back up and I immediately fired with my 300 ultra mag rolling the bear a few tense moments and he was down for good. And its all on video tape!
Two hours later and a short backpack to the river and a float in our inflatable raft to the bay and a switch over the larger 20 foot boat and off we were home.
